Sand Man

Sand Man

Looking at objects through another medium was my intent today. Searching for examples of objects not as they are, but how they look when viewed off another surface. Most everything takes on a unique perspective this way. From painterly and sublime to graphic and abstract.

Water provided one surface this calm summer morning wandering near my home. The challenge was finding a subject worthy of shooting its reflection. There is a whole reverse world out there when you are looking for it. Everything backwards and upside-down. Like shooting with a view camera again.

The historic vessel Sand Man here in Puget Sound provided the perfect subject. The mute tones off the water surface creating a canvas of reflections. A school of tiny fish adding dimension to the still waters at the surface.
