Life in the City

Sometimes you work with a clean palette. Other times you refine previous ideas to find something new. Such was the case this morning in Brooklyn. My challenge today constrained by time and location. Fortunately I had shot near here almost eight years ago and found revisiting an old location was my path this morning.

Location scouting in DUMBO in 2009 I snapped a quick picture that has remained in my files and my memory all these years. Something about the light that morning years ago against the increasingly rare cobblestones here in the city. It called me back to see if I could improve on the originally brief effort so long ago.

To my delight the street remained much the same. The tufts of grasses still fighting for presence in the unnatural world seeking to beat them back. The early morning light the other constant in a world filled with change.

Returning to previously visited locations in photography and in life is a deeply pleasurable adventure for me. The chance to reconnect with past memories. The evolution of the world with a reference point anchored in the past is a powerful and emotional experience. It’s always comforting to see that nature remains a constant. Greeting me with perpetual regularity in a world of transformation.
