The Power of Rehearsal

The Power of Rehearsal

An empty chapel filled with only a voice. Light spilling in from a bank of arched windows facing north. Wooden pews sit rigid awaiting an audience still days away.

This is the time for rehearsal. Solitary practice the vocalist uses to create and perfect her craft. The empty space a refugee. A sounding board to the potential of the performance.

Rehearsal: a session of exercise. A preparation for performance. In every performing art form and even those not created under the public eye, a rehearsal becomes a vital part of the process.

For a photographer, it is no different. Every opportunity a chance to rehearse. Perfect the craft. Fine tune the process. Sometimes it is chaotic and untethered. Other times controlled and discipline. It is the rehearsal time that helps defines the outcome. Determines the skills developed or left unneeded. In the confines of a private space or in full view of the public. It’s all rehearsal. It’s all of value. But only if you keep pushing and exploring.
