Pink Flamingos

Pink Flango walls
Wallpaper of Pink Flamingos in a NYC bathroom

It was a bit overwhelming this room filled with pink flamingos. Several people over the course of the evening had mentioned the loo here was a must see. And from the standpoint of pure shock value, it did not disappoint.

But what drew me in was not the obnoxious wallpaper but the symmetry and order in stark contrast to the bold and chaotic wall pattern.

Seeking contrast in photography can take on many forms. It is found in the light we choose to capture and the colors we selected to work with. It is found within the context of our subjects and our point of view as it sits apart from others work. It creates tension in our storylines and a balanced black and white photo is dead without it.

The contrast in a subject can be one of the easiest plays. It exists around every corner and in this case behind a single door marked M. However you chose to use contrast in a photo is completely up to you. Use it often and use it freely in all its forms. Rarely will it disappoint.
