Moon and Palms

Palms under a cloudy night with the moon pushing in

My intent today was to push myself. To go outside my comfort zone and create a composited image. For once, not shooting the entire picture as a single frame in the camera like I always do.

I spent the morning capturing elements I thought would work for the story I wanted to tell. Returning to my computer I then spent the better part of the day working away. It was frustrating. Partly the program. Partly my inexperience in the technique. In the end, it was a total failure. The picture represented here today clearly not the result of my efforts, but from the night before.

Sure I have manipulated and enhanced images before on the computer, but never really spent any time creating something truly new from a series of individual shots. I tip my hat to those in this game who clearly have mastered this technique. You know who you are.

One of the only benefits about failure is it creates a catalyst to learn more. To try harder. At least that was my take away from today’s effort. Many of the lessons learned added to my future efforts and slowly expanding that zone of comfort.
