Head on a Stool

Head casting awaits a body
Bronze casting sits alone on a stool in the artists shop

Returning from Asia just this morning I really wanted to post something I had photographed there. Since this was one of the last pictures I took before hopping on the plane to come home. It was shot on the 20th, but a world way when it was still the 19th here in the US. A fun idea to capture my picture on the correct day in Asia, but before Eliot’s post was made here in the US. A chance to have a little fun with time zones and travel.

This bronze casting had caught my eye. A strange juxtaposition of a head on a stool sitting alone outside a shop. His expression a funny smirk from someone without a body. The artist’s gloves sitting just in the background.

There was never a question I would convert this to black and white. It greatly simplified the scene letting the distraction of color fall away to bring the expression more into focus. The deeper shadows of black and white giving me the chance to create the depth from the background I wanted.

It has been a long day. I feel a little like my subject here. Somewhat disconnected – my head from my body. Travel will do that to you most times.
