Boatyard Art

Loose folds of plastic sheeting move easily in the afternoon breeze. A nearly imperceptible rustling sound as the sheets brush against each other is punctuated with the blast of angle grinders and drills binding under hardened material. A scaffolding acts as a support for the workman and these paint-stained coverings backlight in the midday sun.

A walkthrough any boatyard is always a reason to linger. Boats resting in suspension awaiting a return to water reveals shapes normally hidden from view. The workers busy tending to tasks both larger and small rarely notice an intruder. Projects in various stages of completion offer opportunities to shoot. Cropping out the context of the yard gives a photographer the chance to play with shapes and forms. A simple study in red, white, and blue the result.
