Eye on Selection

From TV logos to spiritual ritual the eyespots or ocellus of the peacock have long been a source of fascination and wonder. Even in evolutionary theory they have found a home.

Based on the eyespots of the peacock feather, the Naturalist Charles Darwin advanced a secondary force in evolution. Sexual Selection. It works much like natural selection where the most beautiful peacock feathers attract the greater number of peahens reinforcing a genetic carousal of ever evolving feathered splendor.

With colors and hues found in few other places in nature the feathers of the peacock need no Photoshop trickery or manipulation. Straight up beauty just works that way. Controlling the exposure and contrast to capture what inherently is one of the most beautiful natural displays around.

Through the eye of the photographer, the theorist, or a peahen we all see the same thing.
