Beer Drinker Sunset

Deciding what to take a photograph of many times takes longer that actually taking the picture. I like to find a quite place to consider what my next photographic move will be. It’s my process and I find it helps me to be more focused when I actually have a camera in hand searching for the next picture.

On a warm summer evening on my deck overlooking Budd Bay and the southern end of Puget Sound I found the perfect place to let the process run free.

With a cold beverage in hand I spent the next hour thinking of subjects and points of view. Twists in narrative and where I might find what was building in my mind.

Getting up to leave I picked up my empty glass. A single swallow remained. Tipping it back for the last drop reviled the sunset through one of my favorite pint glasses from the Fish Tail Brewery here in town.

Sometimes my process works in strange ways. I’m not always a quick study, but one thing I have learned; Never argue with a process that involves a sunset and a cold drink. I’ll leave all those ideas I had this evening on the deck. I found my shot today at the bottom of an empty glass.
