Desert Holiday

As winter storms continued a march across the Pacific NW, and much of the rest of the US for that matter, a spontaneous holiday road trip seemed in order and so off we went. No flight delays or cranky toddlers kicking my seat back, just the soft closing of the van doors, a turn of the key, and we are released from the chains of holiday tradition.

The winter desert has so much to offer this time of year; cooler temps, few crowds, and low sun angles to make any photographer happy. With only the natural landscape to work with the possibilities quite literally surround you. The challenge becomes narrowing your point of view – selectively cropping to pull the smaller picture from an expansive panorama. All possible with a little time found in the solitude and beauty that always seems in abundance here in the high desert.
