Shutters

It feels like it’s always hot here in Vietnam, but this week, a rare cool breeze has brought some unexpected relief.

As I wandered around this afternoon, searching for visual textures to
capture, I started thinking about the deeper layers of “texture” in
travel itself. Just like in photography, where texture gives depth and
richness to an image, life in a different country reveals textures of
its own. Cultural texture—the intricate layers of history, tradition,
and everyday life. Social texture, the way people interact, laugh, and
communicate. And of course, the texture of personal relationships—the
bonds you form, whether fleeting or lasting, that add dimension to your
experience.

Much like capturing textures in a photograph, discovering these moments
in life takes patience and an openness to the unexpected. Sometimes,
just when you think you’ve seen it all, a new layer appears—one that you
hadn’t noticed before.

As I continue exploring Vietnam, I find that it’s not always the visual
textures I’m drawn to, but the new chance to connect, to learn, and to
uncover something I hadn’t expected. Just like with photography, the
deeper you go, the more beauty you find.
