Koi Toy

Over the weekend, with summer finally approaching, it was time to shop for some new outdoor furniture. The store had a large indoor koi pond—one of the most impressive I’ve seen outside of Asia.
When I returned early this morning to pick up our purchase, I paused for a few minutes beside the pond.

The cleaner had just finished servicing it, and the water was crystal clear. A glass wall framed the koi as they gathered near to greet me.

Koi are such curious creatures. Their purpose feels a bit ambiguous—somewhere between art and animal. Like a toy poodle, they often seem more ornamental than practical. But maybe that’s the point. Not everything in life needs a clear function to hold meaning. Some things simply exist to be admired.
