
Even a single good day of weather in the Pacific Northwest is cause for celebration at this time of year.
Around town, in parks and along local trails, you see the premature turn to summer clothing. Shorts and sandals that have spent months sitting idly in someone’s closet are suddenly fair game. At these temperatures, my friends in Santa Barbara would still be wearing their Patagonia puffy down jackets and complaining about the cold snap they were experiencing.
Not here. It’s time to break into a dance and soak up even the briefest exposure to solar energy.
An impromptu celebration erupted when someone sat down at an aging piano and began to play. Like moths to a flame, children majically, and the afternoon vibe felts like midsummer, despite 30-degree temperatures just the day before.
