Market Day

The press of the crowd was greater than expected. Early morning heat and the fact that it was Friday at this locals market only intensified the experience. Towering over the crowd offered a unique vantage point, revealing a sea of conical hats bobbing and flowing as the mass of people slowly pushed forward. There was work to be done here, and a sense of purpose hung in the air much like the humidity. Elderly women slapped my arm as they passed. It was another day in the Delta, where it’s all work and no play.
