Touch

With camera in hand most of my time is spent capturing the big picture. Including all the elements needed to tell an entire story in one frame; commerce driving what makes it into the picture or not. “A little more of the background”. “Include the logo”. “Don’t forget to leave copy space on the right”. Always the big picture with everything fighting to be included within the confines of the viewfinder.

I’m increasingly drawn to detail photography these days. The chance to get close and feel the texture of things. Taking a singular point of view without regard for anything else around it.  A macro visual invoking a tactile desire to understand what something feels like.  It’s a powerful feeling shooting details. Getting down close. Right into the fiber of an object. Focusing on a single component without a care for the bigger picture that surrounds the frame. For me it’s liberating.
