Impossible

The sea mist hangs heavy and low as the sun slowly fades behind an approaching front. Rocky shores beat back the rising Fall tides as the constant drone of the breaking waves creates a monotone of sound over the shoreline. A vista normally filled with color is shrouded in a transparent layer of gray moisture like a blanket draped over the landscape. The distant sounds give way to seagulls in flight overhead as a soft breeze brings the smell of the ocean to my face.

Hoping to capture a three dimensional scene on a single plane of film is impossible, yet that doesn’t stop the photographer from trying. Standing on the rocky shore witnessing first hand brings the realization that every effort to bring this into a single frame will fail. Only a small portion of a complex vista able to be captured.

The fading light and the building clouds move ashore. The sun has gone, yet a single frame captured as a reminder of time spent, the limitations of a camera and the beauty of a seashore waiting to be explored again.
