In Santa Barbara, there is an abundance of white stucco walls due to the visual continuity guidelines mandated by the city. This presents numerous opportunities to use stucco as a canvas to highlight the textures and shapes that surround them. Here, outside the Post Office, I was initially drawn to the scalloped shadows of the overhanging tile. However, I realized that there was potentially much more happening than my initial observation suggested. With limited space between the wood fence and the wall, I decided to incorporate that into the scene, and somehow it just seemed to fit.
