BALE DUMA:

“House in a Rice Field” is the name of our new home and Mada Putra our new landlord. Made the handshake deal on Saturday morning as Mada and his wife Putu welcomed us with fresh young coconuts from the tree outside. Putu blessed the stove, the well outside, the entrance, and the small temple on our porch.

Life in a rice fields has some challenges not unlike any view worth having Since we are a walk across the fields to the house everything is a carry or scooter in about 5 mins from the nearest car access. It will help us be green since we are already thinking size and weight on about everything we see. If we can’t carry it or fit it on the scooter…guess we don’t really need it.

Made’s father is here everyday working the rice fields around our place and Mada was waiting for us the first night watching our house since we had left a laptop out on the porch.

We have meet others around us, mostly locals that run the laundry, grocery spot, gas stop and restaurants which we visit every night. Not much sense in cooking dinner and cleaning dishes when it is only $ 10-15 for us both depending on how many beers I have.

Sunday was spent at the small hotel nearby where we had breakfast, lounged around the pool, Teri got a hour massage and pedicure and I read the NY Times online all for under $40.

Ran Teri down to the local Banjar this morning (Monday) for her first day of school and kids. She is in a car pool that picks up with other GS teachers in our neighborhood.

Settling in as I count down till I have to head back for work a week from today. I could get used to this life. Less food, less drink, less stress, less house, less car, less insurance, less bullshit in general…everything is less… but so much more all at once.
