POV

A photographers point of view can be represented in many parts of a picture. Conceptual, artistic, technical, and of course a literal POV.

A perspective represented by the position of the narrator in relation to the story. A point where the narrator’s outlook depicts the events.

It’s the most natural things to do with a camera. Bring it to your eye and capture the scene before you. The camera taking the position formerly occupied by the photographer.

Shooting POV feels personal and private. It imparts proximity and intimacy into a photograph and the events happening before you.

In this instant world we live in the POV has taken an outsized place in photography. Driving much of what we see in social media outlets on a daily basis.

It’s a fun technique to explore. Appropriate and necessary in situations where proximity to the story are best told from a personal perspective,
but hardly worthy of its overuse we see so much today.
