Palm trees and building on Catalina Island

Sailing this week through the Channel Islands we stopped for a couple of nights in Catalina Islands’ famous Avalon Harbor. Just a short five-hour sail from LA it’s a classically iconic southern California adventure. Arriving by sailboat makes the trip especially unique as the majority of visitors come via the many ferries that service this location.

The prominent feature of the harbor is the Catalina Casino built-in 1929 by chewing gum legend William Wrigley and features classic Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival architecture. The facility still hosts many annual events and remains a centerpiece to this beautiful harbor location.

Walking near sunset offered many points of view and was as impressive from the water distance as it was standing directly under its many archways.
