Empty Classroom

The distant sound of student voices filled the empty classroom. Textbooks lay open to the morning’s lesson. A bank of windows let in the hot midday sun offering little relief from the heat outside.

As I walked in it was the view of class interrupted that caught my eye. The teacher’s chalk lying randomly on her desk. A blackboard behind was covered with her thoughts just before the bell rang and the room emptied for the morning break.

Touring a rural elementary school today in Viet Nam provides more than enough inspiration. The quiet of the empty room gave me just enough time to find what I was looking for.
